Cincinnati Chili Recipe

Cincinnati chili is a unique and delicious chili that is made with ground beef, beans, spices, and cocoa powder. It is typically served over spaghetti noodles or hot dogs, and it is often topped with cheese, onions, and beans.

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 (28-ounce) can crushed tomatoes
  • 1 (15-ounce) can tomato sauce
  • 1 (15-ounce) can kidney beans, drained and rinsed
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste

  1. In a large pot over medium heat, brown the ground beef. Drain off any excess grease.
  2. Add the onion and garlic to the pot and cook until softened, about 5 minutes.
  3. Stir in the crushed tomatoes, tomato sauce, kidney beans, chili powder, cumin, cinnamon, cayenne pepper, and cocoa powder. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 30 minutes, or until the chili has thickened.
  4. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  5. Serve over spaghetti noodles or hot dogs, and top with your favorite toppings, such as cheese, onions, and beans.

  • For a spicier chili, add more cayenne pepper to taste.
  • To make a vegetarian chili, omit the ground beef and use vegetable broth instead of water.
  • To make a vegan chili, use vegan cheese and vegan toppings.
  • Cincinnati chili is traditionally served with oyster crackers, but you can also serve it with tortilla chips or bread.
